About 320 million people in Africa, or about 40% of the region's population, lack access to safe drinking water, and less than 30% of rural dwellers in sub-Saharan Africa have stable access to safe drinking water. Contamination of water sources causes thousands of people to be hospitalized each year due to waterborne diseases, and hundreds of thousands of people lose their lives as a result. Many countries in Africa face enormous challenges in education, health and economic development due to a lack of clean water, with economic losses of billions of dollars each year

It All Starts with Water

According to the Africa-focused water charity The Water Project, “Kenya’s natural water resources do not provide enough water to the country’s regions, nor do they cover large parts of the country.”

Rapid urbanization is considered a key reason why many Kenyans face water and sanitation issues. According to leading water charity Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), rapidly growing urban populations have led to overcrowding and the rise of informal settlements where residents have little access to water and sanitation services.

There are 1,900 With 1 million Kenyans without access to safe water, and large numbers of women and children spending a third of their time fetching water from the nearest freshwater source under the scorching sun, the need for effective solutions has never been greater.
